Tilly's Tables Multi Sensory Times Tables Flash Cards !
Tilly's Tables is based on 11 fun characters who get into all sorts of situations: colorful illustrations combined with a short story create a number image in your child's imagination making the multiplication tables easy to remember.
Tilly’s Tables was first developed in 1999 by Jane Hague whilst home educating four of her five children. Jane realised her children were having difficulty learning the multiplication times tables in the conventional way. They understood number concept and recognised number patterns but seemed to have difficulty remembering and recalling the information quickly. When Jane was in primary school here father taught her to remember the spelling of some words using mnemonics, for example:
The word "because" can be remembered with the following mnemonic. "Big Elephants Cause Accidents Under Small Elephants.
How about the five Vowels: "Ann's Egg Is On Us"
Another tricky word is "address", some students have difficulty remembering that there are 2 x "D's" and 2 x "S,s" in address:
Letters "Directly Delivered are Safe and Sound."
Later on when studying biology, Jane was required to remember the name of bones in the human body, for example: To remember there are two bones in the lower part of the leg she coined the nick name, "The pussy cat bones", Tibia and Fibula. If you own a cat you will know how they like to rub against your lower legs.
Jane wondered if a similar technique could be employed for the multiplication tables and started using pictures and short stories to engage her children's imagination and instantly found far greater success.
Tilly’s Tables unique number image system uses proven visual and auditory memory hooks based on a universally acclaimed technique called “mnemonics” that will help your child learn multiplication facts quickly and be able to recall numbers with ease. The number image system employs Imagination and Association in order to create a tangible image of the multiplication tables in your child's minds eye.
"Imagination and Association" are the key to success.
According to the worlds leading authority on memory and learning; Tony Buzan. The two most important core principles for improving memory are Imagination and Association.
